One of the greats, indeed - thank you for this. Saw her in Minneapolis in 1995, where she was beloved; her voice and songs and energy were delightful. Here's a short acoustic set from that visit — a good listen! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_4C71Q23S4
Thank you for this! I did not know about the plaque for Kirsty. I saw her live in Cambridge at the Corn Exchange. It was a great performance. My children grew up listening to her in the car :) happy days.
Your writing sings. Next time in London I’ll check out Soho Square. Still think “Fifteen Minutes” was the best song about celebrity culture ever written, and an uncanny predication of the Instagram world to come
What a beautiful post. I loved Kirsty and thought she was a fantastic talent. I didn’t know about the plaque on the bench and will seek it out. I enjoyed this very much.
Thank you for this. She's been my hero ever since I heard Kite, and there's no one else quite like her. She's the funniest and the fiercest, the sweetest and the darkest songwriter I know, and her songs can, no matter how often I hear them, move me to laughter and to tears. Soho Square always the latter... I won't make it to the bench this year - maybe next - but will play her songs and revel in her skill and her power all over again.
Thank you for remembering wonderful Kirsty MacColl. I'm touched to read about the plaque in Soho Square which I didn't realise was there. I will listen to some of these tracks today in her memory.
What a wonderful post. She was such a force. As you say, her voice was so distinctive and her collaborations so creative. I will go and visit her bench
Thank you so much. I really appreciate that you've enjoyed this, and for your contribution. Yes, please visit the bench. I'll be there in a couple of weeks!
I wish I could be there to honor the great Kirsty - she was a singular talent, and under-appreciated for her contributions to music. "Kite" is such an amazing album, ditto for "Tropical Brainstorm" and well, pretty much everything else she did. I was lucky enough to see her at a small club here in Seattle in 1993, and in the '00s I played in a band that covered "Chip Shop" with bandmates who all shared my appreciation for her talent.

Thank you. Sadly, I never saw her live. That's a great memory that you have.
