As beautifully and tenderly written as the song itself. So interesting to learn of the creation of one of my fave ever songs. It is most poignant that only one person from that story survives..
Beautiful writing. I remember seeing graffiti on a toilet door at school: 'Plucked her eyebrows on the way, shaved her legs and then he was a she'. I must have been 12 or 13, and I thought there was such poetry in those lines.
Yes, it is a great record, and I'm glad you name-checked the equally great Mick Ronson; so many great songs that have passed into iconic status would simply not have sounded the same if Ronson had not been in the studio when Bowie made those records.
And what an iconic studio Trident was...talk about sacred spaces!
A fine article from Mike & Jackie. Great piece of descriptive writing.
I remember this as the first record that made me think positively about what was then an unknown subject.
Ray.
Fascinating sleeve (or should I say liner) notes

Thank you Margi. I very much appreciate your comments. Yes, it’s so poignant.

Thank you so much Maria.
Thanks for another fascinating angle to the Trident story! I wrote a post about that Bechstein last year which was its own long tale :)
Thank you, and I’m glad you enjoyed it.
And a remarkable article, thks!
Who knew that it was recorded at the heart of entertainment London and that the man from Brixton had a hand in it
Thank you. I’m glad you found it interesting.
Wonderful piece. A great song with an incredible message. Thank you for bringing it to life in Soho.
Thank you Margaret. It’s just a remarkable song.

Terrific read, you two, and thank you!
Thanks Mark as always for your interest. The problem in writing about Trident is that there are just so many stories about the place.
I can only imagine, Mike, with all those great artists that haunted the place, how could it be otherwise?
