Lovely stuff, and I admire your chutzpah in trying to claim the Fabs as London’s finest…ha-ha!
But I do get your point about Soho as the great incubator of many of Britain’s cultural progeny. And, of course, it was also pivotal to the Sex Pistols, which is why I was always attracted to the ‘idea’ of it as a kid in Manchester. It’s the part of London I always loved most when living there, and miss most of all today now I’m many miles away.
Looking forward to the rest of the Merseybeat-on-the-Thames tour!
Don’t get me wrong - they are Liverpool’s finest indeed! I’m just trying to show how Soho provided conditions for them to transform from a brilliant band to a cultural phenomenon. You’re right in that the Pistols were a truly Soho band. Never saw them play there, but did see Sid perform with Johnny Thunders at the Speakeasy - not strictly in Soho but near as damn it.
Lovely stuff. Despite adoring the Beatles and, of course, adoring London, I’ve always been a bit sketchy about their movements in the capital (apart from the obvious locations). So I’m hugely looking forward to learning more about their Soho adventures. One thing I’ve used in pub quizzes but never definitively checked…. I think that Bishopsgate is the only London location mentioned in a Beatles song (Mr Kite). Can anyone think of another?

So interesting, thanks Mike yet again for bringing us history and stories.
You’re most welcome Rosalind. So glad you enjoyed it.

Thank you Margaret. I’m getting back into the writing now.
